About JAZA

What is JAZA doing?

What is the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums (a public interest incorporated association) doing?
JAZA is a gathering of 139 Japanese zoos and aquariums for the purpose of conserving nature and precious animals from an international perspective.
We are cooperating and collaborating to achieve our mission in an approach that wouldn’t be possible by a single zoo/aquarium.
You might have visited a zoo or an aquarium before. What have you seen there? Did you enjoy it?
Zoos and aquariums are institutions intended to both entertain and to provide educational knowledge about nature and animals.
Here we would like to introduce our works by using the example of our four objectives.

Statement of the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums (JAZA)

Regard to the Russian invasion of Ukraine

Russia's military invasion of Ukraine threatens the peaceful lives of the Ukrainian people and the natural and wildlife habitats of the region, shaking the very foundations of world peace and international order, and is totally unacceptable.
Zoos and aquariums, whose activities are based on the premise of world peace and interactions between people and creatures beyond national and regional boundaries, are deeply concerned that the continuation of such a situation will have a very negative impact on people's lives, the local natural environment, and the maintenance and development of zoos and aquariums in the world, including Ukraine and Russia, and in Japan, and on international cooperation.
We strongly hope that the safety and health of the people involved in zoos and aquariums in Ukraine and the animals they keep will be ensured, and we strongly hope for a peaceful resolution through prompt dialogue and diplomatic negotiations.
